Primary Uses

Indications

This drug is indicated as a short term treatment (4 weeks) for heartburn associated with non-erosive GERD (digestive disorder), and short term treatment (8 weeks) of all grades of erosive oesophagitis. It is used to maintain healing of erosive oesophagitis, and relief of heartburn for up to 6 months.

Side Effects

Side effects of this drug include nausea, vomiting, rash, hives, itching, difficulty in breathing, or swallowing, irregular, fast or pounding heartbeat, excessive tiredness, dizziness, lightheadedness, muscle spasms, uncontrallable shaking of a part of the body, seizures, severe diarrhea with watery stools, stomach pain and fever.

Pregnancy

There is no evidence of risk in humans. However, consult your healthcare provider for better advice.

Lactation

Caution is advised with this medication in lactation women. Consult your healthcare provider for better advice.   

Precautions

Exclude malignancy before and during treatment with this medication. Use with caution in severe liver impairment. Patients who are allergic to any of the ingredients in dexlansoprazole delayed-release capsules should also use the drug with caution.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with liver problems, inadequate B12.

It should be taken 1 hour before a meal, preferably in the morning.

Long-term use of Dexlansoprazole can cause weak bones and a deficiency of minerals such as magnesium. To avoid this, take adequate dietary intake of calcium and magnesium or their supplements as prescribed by your doctor.
