It is indicated for treating Diabetes Mellitus type 2 as monotherapy or with metformin.
Dosing interval: 12 Hr -24 Hr
Maximum Dose: 2000mg/8mg per day
Start a dose of 2mg/500mg once a day or twice daily then adjust accordingly after 14 days
In patients with eGFR (glomerular filteration rate) less than 30ml/min/1.73m2; the medicine is contraindicated. However, in patients eGFR (glomerular filteration rate) approximately 30-45ml/min/1.73m2; the drug is not suggested to be used for therapeutic indication.
The medicine is clearly not suggested to be used in nursing mothers.
BLACK BOX WARNING: Pioglitazone and Rosiglitazone are known to cause an exaggeration of cardiovascular cases. It should be taken along with extreme care when patient is being recommended with metformin as occassional report of lactic acidosis has been proven specifically with a prevailing cardiac illness, collapsed condition or hypoxic sufferings. Patients who are at risk of extreme lowered glucose values through any trauma, stress or fever conditions requires vigilant monitoring when prescribed with this therapy. Prescribed indication may also develop ovulation in premenopausal women. Monitor the use of metformin when dyed contrast therapy are being initiated and discontinue if eGFR (estimated Glomerular filteration) rate is found to be in between 30-60ml/min, it is also suggested in studies to discontinue the therapy of metformin if patient informs for alcoholism or hepatic diseases.
