Q1. What is the use of this medicine?
This medicine is used to reduce elevated eye pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma (an eye condition that can cause damage to the optic nerve).
Q2. How should it be stored?
Store this medicine at controlled room temperature depending on the medicine type and manufacturer. Keep the medicine away from excessive light, moisture, and children.
Q3. How to use it?
It is used in the form of eye-drops, to apply, wash the hands and do not touch the tip.
Q4. What are its side effects?
The side-effects are mild hyperemia (blood inside the eye), pain, inflammation, irritation, dry eyes, iris discoloration, light sensitivity, inflamed cornea, headache, and darkening of the skin around the eye.
Q5. What are its precautions?
The patient should be informed of any possible changes in the eye color, monitor closely in patients with dry eyes, and compromised cornea. Should be cautiously used in patients with eye diseases and inflammatory conditions. Contraception must be used. Remove contact lenses before using this medicine and wait for 15 minutes after.
Q6. Is it safe to use during pregnancy?
This medicine should only be used during pregnancy if no safer alternative is available. Consult your healthcare provider before use of this medicine.
Q7. Is it safe to use during lactation?
This medicine is contraindicated in lactating mothers.
This medication is used to reduce elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma (eye condition that can cause damage to the optic nerve) or ocular hypertension (increased pressure in the eye).
Patients using this medicine may experience redness of the eyes and iris hyperpigmentation (darkening or the coloured part of the eye). Patients may also experience pain, irritation, itchiness, dryness, and foreign body sensation in the eyes. Photophobia, keratitis, flare headache, darkening of periorbital (around the eyes) skin and eyelids may also occur.
Pregnancy
Risk cannot be outruled for use during pregnancy.
Lactation
This medicine is contraindicated in nursing females.
Driving
Please avoid driving when taking this medicine as it may affect your ability to drive.
Precautions
Thw following precautions must be observed while taking this medicine: Avoid skin contact. Warn patients of possible changes in eye colour, and observe eye condition closely, especially in the patients with dry eyes or compromised corneas. Contraception must be used while taking this medication. Caution is advised in patients suffering from Aphakia (absense of natural eye lens), pseudophakia (degeneration of lens), cystoid macular edema (disorder of the retina causing buildup of cyst-like areas of fluid), iritis (inflammation of the colored part of the eye) and active eye inflammation, thyroid eye disease. Neovascular, angle closure, congenital, pigmentary or pseudoexfoliative glaucoma (types of eye disorders that affect the optic nerve). Remove contact lenses before administering the medicaiton, and wait for 15 minutes before re instering them.
The medication is contraindicated in patients having known hypersensitivity to either the active substance in this medicine or to any of the excipients.
What are the uses of Travoprost?
This medication is used for treatment of high pressure in the eye (glaucoma, open-angle type) which helps prevent blindness.
How to store Travoprost?
Please store this medicine at room temperature (20-25 Celsius) or low temperature (below 10 C) depending on the medicine type and manufacturer. Keep medicine away from excessive light, moisture, and children. Please do not flush medicines down the toilet. Please read the leaflet provided with the medicine for further storage guidance.
Do I need to cover my eyes following cataract surgery?
You may be asked to wear sun glasses or avoid sun exposure for some time following cataract surgery. For further guidance, consult your healthcare provider.
Will this medicine affect my vision?
You may be required to close your eyes for 10-15 after using this medicine so tasks like driving should be avoided immediately after use. Rarely does this medicine cause vision changes.
Does Travoprost have any effect on pregnancy and lactation?
This medicine should only be used during pregnancy if no safer alternate is available. Consult your healthcare provider before use of this medicine. The effects of this medicine on lactating mothers are unknown. Consult your health care provider before use of this medicine.
