Description

Xylocaine topical solution contains Lignocaine HCl, a local anesthetic that temporarily lowers or blocks pain sensation. Local anesthetics produce numbness and loss of sensation at the application site. It is used for local application, e.g. small surgical procedures. It is indicated for pain control during short, small surgical procedures, such as those involving the urethra (duct by which you urinate), as anesthetic lubricant for oral and nasal intubation, and topical treatment of painful urethritis (inflammation of urethra). Directions For Use

Directions for use

• For topical use i.e. applied on the skin or on equipment being used in procedure. 
• It should be used after cleaning the affected area properly if possible.
• Apply xylocaine with clean hands as directed.
• Wash hands after use.
• Avoid contact of lignocaine with your eyes.
• For dose instructions, follow the prescribed course of therapy given by the doctor or pharmacist
• Do not use more than 4 doses of xylocaine within 24 hours.
• If xylocaine is applied in mouth or throat, avoid eating or chewing gum for next 1 hour.
• It is prescription medication, so should be used on as-needed basis only.

Storage

Store at room temperature away from direct heat and sunlight. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.

Precautions

• Not recommended for use if you are allergic to lignocaine or other anesthetics like bupivacaine etc or to PABA (para-aminobenzoic acid) or any other ingredient present in Xylocaine jelly.
• Not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age.
• Contraindicated if patient has hypovolemia (decrease in volume of blood) & complete heart block
• Extreme caution advised in case of sepsis or severely traumatized mucosa at area of application.

When not to use

• Not recommended for use if you are allergic to lignocaine or other anesthetics like bupivacaine etc., or to PABA (para-aminobenzoic acid) or any other ingredient present in Xylocaine.
• Use Xylocaine in pregnant females only if necessary.
• Contraindicated if patient has hypovolemia (decrease in volume of blood) or complete heart block.

Side effects

This medicine may cause the following:

• Mild irritation
• Temporary loss of sensation at the application site

Pregnancy

Most likely safe to use in pregnant females. However, consult your doctor before use. 

Lactation
