Prophylaxis of Chickenpox

Description

Chickenpox is an infectious disease that causes mild fever and itchy, inflamed, red pimples which often turn into blisters and then become scabs. It occurs due to an infection by the Herpes Zoster Virus and mainly affects children. Chickenpox can now be prevented by getting vaccinated by the Varicella vaccine which is administered in two doses.

The diagnosis is made when a doctor examines the patient’s blisters, checks relevant symptoms, and performs certain lab tests, such as blood tests or lesion sample tests.

Management

  • Regular use of medicines prescribed by a doctor
  • Keep the patient cool
  • Avoid scratching the blisters
  • Take a cold shower every day
