Varicella Virus Vaccine is a live virus vaccine that is given as a shot. It is meant to help prevent the chickenpox. Chickenpox is sometimes called varicella. It contains a weakened form of chickenpox virus. Varicella virus vaccine works by helping the immune system protect the child from getting chickenpox.

How To Use

  • Inject the vaccine subcutaneously into the outer aspect of the deltoid region of the upper arm or into the higher anterolateral area of the thigh.
  • Each 0.5 mL dose of the varicella virus vaccine is administered subcutaneously.
  • The first dose is administered at 12 to 15 months of age but maybe given anytime through 12 years of age.
  • The second dose is administered at 4 to 6 years of age. 
  • For adolescents and adults two doses of varicella virus vaccine are administered at a minimum interval of 4 weeks.
  • Use a sterile syringe free of preservatives, antiseptics, and detergents for each reconstitution and injection of the varicella virus vaccine.
  • Follow the diet planrecommended by your doctor or dietician.
  • Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
  • Do not increase your dose or take this product more often than directed.
