This medicine is used to treat respiratory tract infections which includes bronchitis (inflammation of the bronchi), pneumonia, emphysema (shortness of breath), lung abscess (death of the lung tissue) and infections with cystic fibrosis. Ear, nose and throat infections. Tonsillitis (inflammation of the tonsils), sinusitis (inflammation of the sinus), pharyngitis (inflammation of the pharynx), otitis media (inflammation of the middle ear) and quinsy (an abscess in the tissue). Pelvic infections. Urinary tract infections; cystitis (urinary tract infection that occurs mostly in bladder) and pyelonephritis (inflammation of the kidney). Skin and soft tissue infections.
The patients taking this medicine may experience hypersensitivity (allergy), GI (stomach and intestine) upset, rash, transient rise in liver enzyme, pseudomembranous colitis (inflammation of the large intestine due to overgrowth of C difficle bacteria).
Pregnancy
This medicine should only be used in pregnancy when clearly needed. Consult your doctor for further advice.
Lactation
This medicine is contraindicated or not recommended in nursing females
Precautions
The patients taking this medicine must be cautious in cases of infectious mononucleosis (infection usually caused by the Epstein–Barr virus) or acute leukemia (cancer of the blood and bone marrow) of lymphoid (contains lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell)) origin. Renal (kidney) impairment
This medicine is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity (allergy) to penicillin, cephalosporin or other beta lactam
