This medicine is indicated for fungal and gram positive bacterial infections of the skin and nails. It is also used for fungal otitis externa (inflammation of external ear). Clotrimazole topical is also indicated for vulvitis (inflammation of vulva, area outside the vagina); balanitis (inflammation of head of penis); treatment of partner to prevent re-infection.

The side effects of this medication include Local mild burning, irritation, hypersensitivity reaction (allergic reaction), or erythema (redness of the skin).

This medicine is contraindicated in patients using barrier contraceptives (condoms, spermicides, cervical caps).

How should you apply this medication?

Apply this medication moderately two or three times daily.


For how long should I use this medication?

Use this medication until 2 weeks after apparent cure.

  • Avoid contact with eyes.
  • Wash hands or wear gloves before application.
  • Contact your doctor if there is constant burning, swelling, itching, worsening of the condition, or lack of response to treatment.
  • Insert full applicator gently into vagina at bedtime and eject cream into vagina.
  • Contact prescriber if there is vulvar itching, fever, foul-smelling discharge, and if the condition worsens.
  • Continue lying down for 30 minutes after administration.
  • Do not have intercourse during therapy.


The medicine should be applied ‘till the prescribed time. Stopping earlier might cause the infection to recur.
This medicine should be avoided when you are menstruating (on your period). Kindly consult your doctor for more information.
Try to wear loose cotton fabric to avoid irritating the area further.
Using this medicine might make the condom less effective. Kindly discuss other forms of contraceptives with your doctor when you are using this medicine.
This medicine might irritate, sting or burn where applied. If this happens please contact your prescriber immediately.
