Primary Uses

Indications

This medicine is indicated in urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, ear nose and throat infections, gynaecological infections (infections and inflammations occuring in vagina and genital tract), abdominal (stomach region) and hepatobiliary (liver plus gallbladder) infection, bone and joint infections, septicaemia (blood poisoning due to invasion of bacteria in bloodstream), endocarditis (inflammation of heart’s inner lining), meningitis (inflammation of meninges (membranous layers covering the brain and spinal cord)).

Side Effects

This medicine can cause GI upset, headache, insomnia (difficulty in sleeping), muscle and joint pain.

Pregnancy

This medicine is contraindicated in pregnant females.

Lactation

This medicine is not recommended in lactating females.

Precautions

Avoid exposure to sun or ultraviolet light during treatment. There’s a risk of severe hepatic insufficiency (loss of liver functions). Streptococci and pneumococci (bacterias) show only immediate susceptibility, as such should not be prescribed as a first line treatment in respiratory tract infections when a bacteriological examination has not been carried out.

Contraindications

It is contraindicated in glucose 6 phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency.
