Metodine DF suspension contain diloxanide furoate & metronidazole in it. Diloxanide furoate is used for treating amoeba infections. While metronidazole acts as an antibiotic (acts against bacterial infections) & antiprotozoal (acts against protozoal infections) medication. It works by killing & stopping growth of infection-causing organisms like bacteria and parasites. It is indicated for treating bacterial & parasitic infections of liver, intestines, vagina, stomach, skin, heart & lungs. It is useful in case of amoebiasis (amoebiasis: infection caused by any of the amoebae of Entamoeba group), giardiasis (small intestine infection), hepatic (liver) amoebiasis, chronic amoebiasis & other systemic diseases caused by Giardiasis & E. histolytica. Metodine is also used for preventing post-operative infections.
Its side effects occur for a short period & are mild. Side effects like gastrointestinal distress can occur. If condition persist or worsen, consult doctor/pharmacist immediately.

Store the medicine at room temperature. Keep it away from the source of heat or direct sunlight.

Avoid alcohol consumption when using this medicine.
Avoid drinking alcohol while taking metodine DF. Before using this medication, inform doctor if using medicines like anticoagulants, ciclosporin, antimicrobials, cimetidine, fluorouracil, phenytoin, lithium, or phenobarbital as metodine may interact with these and produce side effects. It should be very cautiously used in neurodegenerative disorder of the brain (e.g. multiple sclerosis) & in epilepsy or any other convulsion disorders. Inform doctor before taking metodine, if you suffer from conditions like alcohol intoxication, liver disease, too much alcohol drinking habit, lower seizure threshold, seizures (sudden, uncontrolled electrical disturbance in the brain), or tingling/pain in hands or feet
