It is an angiotensin II antagonist (acts against angiotensin 2 hormone) and is indicated in the treatment of essential hypertension (primary hypertension i.e rise in blood pressure).

Side Effects

Patients using this medication may at times experience dizziness, headache, edema (collection of body fluid in tissues and body cavities), and fatigue. If you experience any of these symptoms for a prolonged period of time, please consult your doctor.

Also, in individuals having excessively low BP with ischemic heart disease or ischemic cerebrovascular disease which may result in myocardial infarction (MI) or stroke.

Contraindications

This medicine is contraindicated in cases of biliary obstruction (blockage of bile carrying duct), primary aldosteronism (hormonal disorder leading to high blood pressure), severe liver & in severe kidney impairment.
