Paroxetine is a medicine used to treat depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), panic attacks, and post-traumatic disorders. It works by restoring the balance of a natural substance in the brain, serotonin. It inhibits serotonin’s uptake in the brain (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor-SSRI). It improves appetite, mood, sleep, and energy levels. It may also reduce the frequency of unpleasant thoughts and improve the overall quality of life.
Take this medicine by mouth with a glass of water.
Take this medicine with or without food.
Swallow it as a whole, do not crush or chew the medicine.
Take it at the same time every day to help you remember.
Or use it exactly as instructed by your doctor.
Take this medication in the morning with or without meals. Do not chew or crush, swallow whole. Take sufficient amount of fluids (2-3 litres per day) to maintain hydration.
Do not take aspirin and NSAIDs during therapy and avoid taking this medication within two hours of taking an antacid. Also avoid alcohol and caffeine during therapy.

The patient taking this medication may experience Gastrointestinal disturbances, decreased appetite, somnolence (sleepiness), sweating, tremor, dry mouth, blurred vision, weight gain, agitation, elevated cholesterol levels and impaired concentration.
No definitive data regarding pregnant females is available, therefore, be cautious.
The effects of this medication is undetermined in nursing females. Consult your healthcare provider for further advice.
This medicine may cause dizziness during driving. Therefore, please avoid driving immediately after taking this medicine.
Liver patients should use this medicine with caution. Dose adjustment might be required. Consult your doctor for more information.

Avoid alcohol consumption when using this medicine. It may increase the severity of side effects.
The patient taking this medication should be cautious in cases of hepatic (liver) or severe renal (kidney) impairment, cardiovascular (heart) disease, bleeding disorders, glaucoma (increased pressure within the eye), epilepsy (Central nervous system disorder in which the patient experiences seizures), diabetes, hyponatremia (low sodium levels), history of suicide-related events. The patient must also be cautious if elderly and should withdraw this medication gradually.
This medicine is contraindicated within 2 weeks of stopping MAOIs (Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors) or 1 day of stopping moclobemide or linezolid.
