Primarily used for



It is to be used with special caution & with a doctor’s consult in individuals having hypercalcemia (high calcium levels), kidney disease, kidney stone, achlorhydria (having no or little stomach acid), heart disease, pancreatic disease, sarcoidosis (a lung disease), malabsorption syndrome (difficulty in absorbing nutrition from food). 

Also, some formulations of calcium are sugar-free & they may contain aspartame in them. Hence, its use is to be carefully done in individuals who have phenylketonuria (PKU) or any other condition which requires them to restrict consumption of aspartame.  Consult your doctor or pharmacist for its safe use.

This medicine may contain inactive ingredients (such as peanut/soy) that can initiate allergic reactions so, keep your doctor informed if you are allergic to it or to any other vitamin D product (like calcitriol). While taking this medicine, inform your doctor or pharmacist of any medical conditions especially if you have hypercalcemia or hypervitaminosis D (high calcium/vitamin D levels), malabsorption syndrome (difficulty absorbing nutrition from food), kidney disease or liver disease.

This medicine is indicated in preventing & treating low blood levels of calcium in individuals who are unable to get enough calcium from their diet. Hence, this medication can be used to treat conditions caused by low calcium levels like osteoporosis (bone loss), osteomalacia/rickets (weak bones), hypoparathyroidism (reduced activity of parathyroid gland) & latent tetany (a muscle disease).

Its side effects include constipation and upset stomach. More serious but unlikely to occur side effects include nausea/vomiting, loss of appetite, unusual weight loss, mental & mood changes, bone & muscle pain, weakness, increased thirst/ urination. Very serious allergic reactions are rare. But if symptoms of an allergic reaction (rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, difficulty breathing) occurs, ask for an immediate medical help.

This medication contains Vitamin D in it which is a fat soluble vitamin that will help to absorb calcium and phosphorus in body. It is used for preventing and treating bone disorders like rickets (softening and weakening of bones in children), osteomalacia (softening of bones due to vitamin D deficiency), osteoporosis (bone loss). It may also be used with other medicines for treating low levels of calcium or phosphate in disorders like hypoparathyroidism (low levels of parathyroid hormone), pseudohypoparathyroidism (resistance to the parathyroid hormone), familial hypophosphatemia (a group of  rare inherited disorders) and in kidney disease to allow normal bone growth by keeping calcium levels normal.

If vitamin D is taken at normal doses, they show no side effects. But if you experience any unusual effects then consult your prescriber right away. Taking too much vitamin D can lead to harmful high levels of calcium. In case of signs of high vitamin D/calcium levels occur like nausea/vomiting, loss of appetite, increase in thirst, increased urination, constipation, mental or mood changes & unusual tiredness, then tell your doctor right away.   • This medicine should be taken by mouth with food.
  • Follow all directions mentioned on the product package or act as directed by the doctor.
  • When using chewable medicine, chew it well before swallowing
  • In case of effervescent tablet, allow tablet to fully dissolve in water before drinking it.
