This medication is used as an adjunct with diet changes and exercise in treating primary hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol level in the blood) or mixed dyslipidemia (elevations in Low Density Lipoprotein cholesterol and triglyceride levels, often accompanied by low levels of HDL cholesterol).

It is also used in treating homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (disorder characterized by abnormal levels of LDL cholesterol).

Patients using this medication may commonly experience weakness, dizziness (lightheadedness), myalgia (muscle pain), diabetes, headaches, stomachache, fatigue, and immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy.

It is contraindicated in severe kidney impairment, active liver disease (elevated serum transaminases). the use of 40 mg dose of this drug in Asian patients & patients with risk factors of myopathy or rhabdomyolysis like moderate kidney impairment, hypothyroidism, personal/family history of hereditary muscle disorders, history of muscle toxicity with statin or fibrate.

  1. Can Rosuvastatin cause dry cough?

This medicine may cause dry cough as a side effect. Please immediately contact your doctor if it gets severe.

 

  1. How does Rosuvastatin work?

This medicine works by reducing the production of cholesterol in the body. Lower cholesterol production leads to the decreased probability of deposition of cholesterol in the blood vessel walls. This reduces the chances of heart attack and stroke.

 

  1. Will I have to exercise while taking Rosuvastatin?

It is recommended that you do light physical exercise while taking this medicine. This will help the medicine work effectively and have beneficial effects on your overall health.

  1. Take this medicine with or without meals.
  2. Contact prescriber if there’s unusual chest pain, swelling of extremities, unusual weight gain, difficulty in breathing, throat tightness, choking sensation, and swelling of face/mouth.
  3. Periodic blood tests are to be taken as advised by the prescriber to check drug’s effectiveness.

Small amounts of this medicine can be transferred to the child through breast milk and thus this tablet isn't recommended to lactating mothers.
