usesUses of Clotrimazole

This medicine is indicated for fungal and gram positive bacterial infections of the skin and nails. It is also used for fungal otitis externa (inflammation of external ear). Spectrazole G topical is also indicated for vulvitis (inflammation of vulva, area outside the vagina); balanitis (inflammation of head of penis); treatment of partner to prevent re-infection.

The side effects of this medication include Local mild burning, irritation, hypersensitivity reaction (allergic reaction), or erythema (redness of the skin).

pillsWhen not to use Clotrimazole

This medicine is contraindicated in patients using barrier contraceptives (condoms, spermicides, cervical caps).

This medication is used in the treatment of infected skin like impetigo (red sores on the face), skin ulcers (open sore caused by poor blood flow), burns, folliculitis (inflammation and infection in the hair follicles), and wounds.

Patients administered with this medication may experience skin irritation, redness, and itching. Rarely, a very serious allergic reaction to it may occur which is characterized by rash (change in color and texture of skin), itching and swelling especially of face; tongue; throat, severe dizziness (feeling of being sleepy), and trouble breathing.

This medication is contraindicated in patients that are allergic to aminoglycosides (type of antibiotic). There are no known disease contraindications.

  • Avoid contact with eyes.
  • Wash hands or wear gloves before application.
  • Contact your doctor if there is constant burning, swelling, itching, worsening of the condition, or lack of response to treatment.
  • Insert full applicator gently into vagina at bedtime and eject cream into vagina.
  • Contact prescriber if there is vulvar itching, fever, foul-smelling discharge, and if the condition worsens.
  • Continue lying down for 30 minutes after administration.
  • Do not have intercourse during therapy.
