This medicine is used in control and prevention of pain and dysfunction caused by smooth muscle spasm (sudden and involuntary muscle contraction).

Side Effects

Patients administered with this medication may experience constipation (difficulty in passing stool), transient bradycardia (slow heart rate) followed by tachycardia (rapid heart rate), palpitation (sensation that your heart has skipped a beat), and arrhythmias (abnormal rate and rhythm of heartbeat). Patients may also experience urinary urgency and retention, dilation of pupils with loss of accommodation (unresponsive pupils), dry mouth, flushing (temporary redness), dryness of skin, confusion, nausea (feeling like vomiting), vomiting, and giddiness (tendency to fall).

This medicine is contraindicated in pregnant females.

Lactation

The effect of this medication is undetermined in a lactating female, therefore, stay cautious, and consult your doctor before using this medicine.

Alcohol

Precautions

This medicine should be used with caution in people with Down's syndrome, in children and elderly, GERD, diarrhea, ulcerative colitis, autonomic neuropathy (disorder of involuntary actions), acute myocardial infarction (heart attack), hypertension, conditions of increased heart rate such as in increased thyroid hormones, cardiac insufficiency, cardiac surgery), fever, and in angle-closure glaucoma.

Contraindications

Antimuscarinics are contraindicated in patients of myasthenia gravis (neuromuscular disorder characterized by skeletal muscle weakness) but may be used to decrease the side effects of anticholinesterases. This medication is contraindicated in patients suffering from paralytic ileus (intestinal blockage caused by malfunction in nerves and muscles), pyloric stenosis (narrowing of the opening between stomach and first part of small intestine), toxic megacolon (widening of large intestine), and prostatic enlargement (enlargement of prostate gland).
